Traditional Mexican Style Rice

Traditional Mexican INGREDIENTS
  • 1 1/2 cups white rice, uncooked
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2/3 cup onion, diced
  • 1 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cans tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon powdered saffron
  • 3 cups water
TRADITIONAL MEXICAN INSTRUCTIONS
First of all heat the oil in a large saucepan over a low to medium heat. And then put the onions in and saute until brown. Add the rice, and stir so that the oil coats the grains. Then add the bell pepper, tomato sauce, chili and cumin powder, garlic, salt, saffron, and water. Cover the pan and bring to a boil, then reducing the heat, allow it to simmer. Let it cook for 25-30 minutes, or until the rice is nice and tender, stirring occasionally. Serve hot. Enjoy the traditional Mexican rice !
